Biochar US Laboratories #analysis #laboratories

Dear colleagues,

I am writing because recently we got a request to develop seaweed biochar from a company based in USA. We are a technology developing company and we have strong collaborations with US industries in the area of biofuels. However, biochar is a new branch in our company and we are looking to collaborate with an analytical facility in USA in order to provide certified reports. Could you please guide me to a company that can provide such reports or please provide an example  standard report format that US labs use to provide results to the clients (attached UK standards  as an example to know if they are similar to the USA Standards).

Without further ado,

Kind Regards 🍀

Edgar,

Thank you for your inquiry. The analysis which you attached was part of a project by our friends at the UK Biochar Research Center and the International Biochar Initiative to develop a series of “standard” analyses. Not all laboratories have the capability of performing all the analyses listed in the IBI Standard or the European Biochar Certificate nor are they needed depending on the applications. Several laboratories in the US have different capabilities depending on client needs. Many biochar suppliers have used Control Labs in California. Their suite of tests is based on the tiered IBI standards. Some US suppliers have had their biochars tested the designated EBC laboratory. US Biochar Initiative is in the process of interviewing laboratories so that we can update our list of laboratories and their capabilities. I will introduce you to the scientist who is doing that work so that you can determine which laboratories suit your needs. We will have the list on the USBI website before long.

Kind regards,

Tom

Edgar,

An option to consider is to send the seaweed biochar sample to both an environmental lab and an agricultural lab. Each of these types of labs are specialists in their respective analytical areas and can provide defendable Cof A's.  If the seaweed is wild harvested than it will reflect what is in the water column it is growing in, both good and bad. Contact me via email and I can tell you which analytical labs I use.

Edgar,

I do not see your company name nor contact info, so the only reply is via this Discussion Group.

Please contact me directly at    psanders@...  .   I am interested in how you intend to make your biochar.   I could have some alternatives that you might consider.  (RoCC kiln   at     www.woodgas.com/resources  )

Edgar,

The analytical labs will tell you what the seaweed biochar is but not what it does, its quality, its fitness for use.

Are you being tasked to determine the quality of the seaweed biochar that you making for your client.........?
